1922 :
The Club was established, Founded by Late Panchanon Choungdar, a resident of Amta, District: Howrah. It started its activities from club office at Panchanontola Road, Howrah and confined to play only football at Howrah Maidan. Then got the affiliation with The Indian Football Association and started playing Calcutta Football league in the 2nd Division.
1928-30 (3 Years) :
Participated in Rovers Cup Football Tournament, Bombay for consequitive 3 years.
1929 :
Defeated East Bengal Club by 2-1 and promoted to 1st Division of CFL as Champion Team.
1932 :
Won the Trades Cup one of the oldest tournaments and become the 2nd Indian team after Mohammadan Sporting club to win the cup.
1935 :
Defeated Mohan Bagan A.C. in a vital league match but then relegated to 2nd Division.
1936 :
Being a 2nd Division club qualified for Semi-final in IFA Shield defeating D.C.H.T. (Shield Winner 1933). East Yorkers by 3-1 (Shield winner thrice & also in 1935) and East Bengal 1-0 in the qualifying round and lost to Mohammeda Sporting Club in Semi-final.
1938 :
Defeated Mohun Bagan A.C. by 1-0 (Scorer B. Bose) in IFA Shield in 2nd Round.
Raja Banerjee one of the player of the club ( elder brother of Badru Banerjee, captain 1956 Indian Olympic Football team) died in the ground while playing for club, was injured in the stomach, on the next day of his marriage
Many Europeans and Anglo – Indians played for the club along with the local residents of Howrah. Popular European and Anglo- Indian players were Plucknett, Copper, Jordan Brothers, J. Goode, J. Chiodetti, Halton, S. Sheake, Ogden. Local Popular players were Debi Ghosh, B. Bose, R. Narayan, A. Das,Amin, D. Mitra(landu), P. Dutta, S. Mitra(Langcha), B. Banerjee, Sailen Manna (Olympian 1948+ Captain1952) during nineteen thirties and early forties.
1948 :
Obtained affiliation of Cricket Association of Bengal and started playing cricket at Howrah Maidan in 2nd Division.
1957 :
Again promoted to 1st Division of Calcutta Football League. The eminent players were Chitto Chandra, Arunlal Ghosh(Olympian1960), Narayan Sanyal, Amiyo Banerjee, Sunil Nandy, Charan Patra.
1962 :
Shifted to Calcutta Maidan , a tent gallery and playing were allotted by Defence, Govt. of India and Sports Dept. Govt. of W. Bengal.
1964 :
Lifted Stafford Cup at Bangalore, Mysore, under the captaincy of M.A. Sattar(Olympian).
1965 :
Promoted to 1st division of C.A.B. league when players like Sankar Moitra, Pranab Ganguly(Bablu), Pranab Banerjee, Subodh Roy, China, Radha Roy(Jagu), presented brilliant performance.
1966 :
Affiliated to West Bengal Volleyball Association & started playing in 3rd Division of state League.
1967 :
Affiliated to Bengal Hockey Association & started playing Hockey in 3rd Division and gradually got promoted to 2nd division and thereafter to 1st Division within a period of 3-4 years time. The Hockey team was under the guidance of Devnine Singh, the Hockey Secretary of the club for more than 3 decades who latter become the Asst. Coach of Indian Olympic team in 1996. Many noted players played for the club during his tenure such an Olympian Joginder Singh, Gurbux Singh(Captain Indian team 1968 Olympic) and Baljit Singh Saini Olympic 2002. Players selected for India camp are Anand Mandapaka, P.S. Rawat, Davinder Singh, the players who represented the state are H.S. Sokhi, Morris Stolke, Mark Jannings, Donglas Stephens, Johnney Stephens, Lister Harlnett, Richard Fanthome, Charanjit Singh.
Won the Coach Behar Cup in football
1973-74 :
Won the volleyball Knockout State Championship & also 1st Division League Champion.
1974-75 :
Runners up in knockout State Championship and 1st Division league champion in Volleyball.
1978-79 :
Again 1st Division League Champion of West Bengal Volleyball Association.
1985 :
Cricket Coaching Centre set – up by Sri Biswajit Choudhuri, the then General Manager of U.B.I. who Later became the Chairman of the Bank pioneered the Idea of coaching to the budding talents and instructed his staff members including Arun Lal to train the boys and subsequently Ashoke Mustafi took the charge as Chief Coach of the Centre. Presently around 200 Trainees are regularly taking training. The Indian Test players like Syed Kirmani, Shiva Rama Krishnan, T.S. Srinivasan enriched the coaching centre by their guidance. For the last couple of years our team won several trophies in tournaments within Bengal as well as in Karnataka and other states.
1987 :
Again Football Team promoted to 1st Division in CFL from 2nd Division.
1988-89 (2 Years) :
Organized Hockey Coaching Camp, initiated by Shibaji Dasgupta, the sports commentator, sponsored by Colgate Palmolive for under 14 years boys which lasted for two years. Baljiit Singh Saini was the product of the camp who represented Olympic in 2002 was the last representative of Bengal in Olympic Hockey games.
1991-93 (3 Years) :
Organized football academy with the assistance of Peerless and I.F.A. (W.B) for 3 years as IFA – Howrah Union – Peerless Project, it was designed to produce good talented footballers. A British Coach was appointed for 6 months for training.
1992-96 (5 Years) :
Started “Inter School Football Tournament” for boys under 16 years with South Bengal District & Calcutta Schools named “Peerless Trophy”. The idea of having Such tournaments came from Dr. Nemai Sadhan Bose, the Ex-Vice Chancellor of Vishwa Bharati, Shantiniketan and one of our Pattron who suggested with view that young talents will get exposure in the Calcutta Maidan. Every year on the final day club fecilitated eminent sports personalities of yesteryears in a befitting manner.
Eminent footballer Dipankar Roy now playing for East Bengal club came into the limelight at this tournament in 1996. The officials of the Tata Football Academy selected him at the ground itself on the final day of the tournament.
